2020 was unpleasant for everyone.

The world economy was performing at a record level before sudden collapse. It may have crashed but it didn’t burn. It can’t be called a recession because of the short duration of it all. Although some industries will take longer to recover our economic landscape is looking good for 2021.

After a 30% drop in 2020 sales, IHT is experiencing a 30% increase in the first quarter of 2021. Industry models have forecasted a return to the pre-pandemic baseline in early 2022. We have already reached that milestone. The trend has flattened a bit as supply chain disruption due recent disastrous weather in the South has slowed manufacturing growth. We expect a more modest growth arc through the rest of the year.

Automotive inventories across the United States are at unusually low levels. First quarter automotive volumes suggest that car makers are anxious to replenish the dearth of inventory.

IHT Office Remodeling

It has been ten years since we remodeled our office and as with any space inhabited by people it shows wear. We decided to renew floors and walls. First was the moving of all office furniture, followed by establishing temporary workstations in our production office. It was a very cozy place for two weeks. Wallpaper was removed and the floor ground to its concrete base to make way for fresh paint and a shiny new floor. We now take delight in beautiful new administrative offices, good for another decade.

Employee Updates

With IHT’s primary inside sales representative  —Rich Buhr — retiring in 2020, IHT took the opportunity to elevate two of our senior production team members into this role. Kyle Kuehn and Juan Ortiz bring 15 and 23 years of induction experience, respectively, to IHT’s newly established quoting team. With IHT going to a team model, our customers and potential customer can expect to benefit from quicker response times on quotation requests.

Also moving into a new role is Tom Iftner who will be taking on familiar responsibilities as IHT’s Quality Systems Manager, a position that was vacated when Doug Secrist retired in 2020. Tom has been with IHT for ten years, including seven years of inspection and quality management experience.
